This was an important match to win; if we won this it would help us to finish second in the league.
Cassiobury started the match in attacking style and produced a couple of good attacks, until Headstone had a break away and scored with their first attempt after splitting the Cassiobury defence. For the rest of the half, Cassiobury were chasing the game, with a very lack lustre performance and Headstone managed to get another two goals before the end of the half. 0 – 3 at half time.
In second half, yet again Cassiobury started off the strongest and managed to pull a goal back straight away, after Jake Mortimer sent a low, hard and fast pass across the goal, for Jack Cairns to blast home. From this Cassiobury could have built, but instead they immediately let another counter attack from headstone result in a goal. For the rest of the half, Cassiobury were on top, but to little avail and the match ended with Cassiobury losing 4 – 1.
Not a great game for Cassiobury, with poor play and mistakes being punished by a good opposition.

Cassiobury, as with the previous meetings between the two clubs, were on top from the beginning, but were not playing to the best of their ability. This resulted in several near misses within the first ten minutes, but no goals. This changed when Jake Mortimer was fowled; he took the awarded free kick and Dan Zaraiah nodded home. Cassiobury were still looking comfortable without really exerting themselves and soon added to the total, this time from Neal Cronin, who fired home a Jack Henley pass. Very soon afterwards Cassiobury got their third, which was yet again from a free kick, this time fired home direct from the kick, by Captain Jonny Robson. 3 - 0 at half time.
A lively start to the second half saw Neil Cronin strike in the second minute. Receiving the ball on the edge of the Loop area, Cronin casually flicked the ball up with his left foot and hit a superb right foot volley into the roof of the net with the Loop keeper motionless. Cronin completed his hat trick with a fast break from defence which saw him run half the length of the pitch, beating two defenders and slotting home under the body of the out rushing keeper.
Although Cassiobury were now very firmly on top, Loop did not give up and put up a stout defence, although having few attacks of their own. This meant that Cassiobury only got one more goal; this time from Frank Blande after a pinpoint cross field pass from Mortimer. 6 – 0 to Cassiobury at full time.
A comfortable win from Cassiobury on a lovely sunny day!!
Cassiobury still had to put the pressure on the top teams in the division and they managed this with a game played very much in the right spirit…..
The match started at a slow pace, with Cassiobury completely dominating and getting their first goal after 5 minutes, when Jack Henley knocked in a Frank Blande pass. Minutes later this was added to when Jake Mortimer latched on to a Jonny Robson pass to half volley home. There were plenty of near misses as well and it looked like Cassiobury would get a hat full. The next goal came from Henley, who this time, nudged home a Ben Robson pass. Again Mortimer followed him with another goal, this time direct from a corner. The final goal of the half was made when Rob Tomkinson gained a throw in, whilst tearing down the wing, for Dan Zaraiah to take the throw in and Matt Godfrey to head home. 0 – 5 at half time.
The second half started in much the same fashion, with Cassiobury dominating. This was until 15 minutes into the half when the ball was put into the box for Neal Cronin to slot home. This was followed shortly afterwards with a hattrick goal from Henley. Mortimer then slotted home from a Cronin pass to get his hattrick. The last goal came from Cronin after a lovely pass from Michael Tomkinson. Cassiobury kept up the pressure, but still with no further goals and at the final whistle the score remained at 9 – 0 to Cassiobury.
Although Cassiobury dominated throughout the game it could have been more, if Cassiobury had played a bit more disciplined football.

A vital match for a ‘top two’ position in the table. Good conditions for the match, except a strong wind….
Both sides started in attacking style and seemed to be evenly matched; with Ginder having the edge on the number of chances.
Ginder adapted better to the wind conditions and although not coming very close to scoring, threatened on several occasions, leaving Cassiobury to make what they could of sporadic counter attacks. This was the first part of the half, until Cassiobury mounted another counter attack and won a free kick, which went to Ben Robson, who passed to Matt Godfrey for him to lay off to Jack Henley, who made no mistake in finishing. Unfortunately, Cassiobury went to sleep after this and let in two ‘soft’ goals; one from a counter attack and the other from a corner. 2 – 1 at half time.
The second half was more equally matched with both sides having early opportunities, but failing to put them away. It was 10 minutes into the half that Ginder had a strong attack along their right wing and managed to put in a superb cross for the their striker to fire home. Cassiobury nearly came back a minute later when they had a chance, which was cleared off the line. However this did not deter Cassiobury who scored shortly afterwards, from a move created from the defence who got the ball to Frank Blande for him to beat two Ginder players and strike home from outside the box. Cassiobury were on top at this point and were putting constant pressure on Ginder, coming close on several occasions, just failing to convert some lovely passes. These attacks exposed Cassiobury’s defence and Ginder again capitalised on this by a break away goal, which put them two up with five minutes left. The game played out with Cassiobury still on top, butt getting no more goals…
4 – 2 to Ginder at full time.

Cassiobury had to make up for a fairly average performance last week…..
The games started with Cassiobury immediately on the attack, using the wings well and playing simple, but effective football and Reed were hardly having a look in! This was rewarded after 10 minutes when a pass from Frank Blande found Jack Henley, who headed the ball in to Captain Jonny Robson’s path for him to slot home past the ‘keeper. There were plenty more attacks from Cassiobury and the next goal came in exactly the same way; this time Blande supplying a cross to the far post, for Robson to fire home. The last goal of the half came from a free kick; this was taken by Jake Mortimer, who floated a ball into the box, for Matt Godfrey, who eluded his marker like ‘Willow the Wisp’, to slam home a volley from fifteen yards, into the top corner of the Reed goal, giving their keeper no chance. 3 – 0 to Cassiobury at half time.
The second half started with Cassiobury immediately on the attack and within 10 minutes, after a patient build up, Jonny Robson scored another goal and got his hat trick, after an excellent through ball from brother Ben Robson. Cassiobury continued to attack coming close several times in the next 10 minutes. Shortly after Cassiobury won a corner on the right hand side of the field, Jake Mortimer swung the corner in towards the penalty spot, Martyn Baxter, who was proving elusive in the box cleverly lost his marker and rose like a salmon to powerfully head the ball into the bottom corner with the accuracy of a Exocet missile, leaving the Reed keeper with no chance. This was followed up by the last goal, from Karl Wright after some excellent passing moves with the midfield and a lovely cross from Jack Henley. 6 - 0 at full time.
Cassiobury won this match well, playing attractive football with plenty of effort and commitment to the end.

Double headers are horrible… for both teams!
Well we can’t say we didn’t know what we had to do! We had to take our opportunities, play simple, easy football and want to win.
Again the game started with Cassiobury's on top, constantly attacking, but still lacking the final ball or shot and as with the first game, Cassiobury failed to take their chances. Colne Valley were firmly pegged back, virtually not getting out of their half and yet half way through the first half, on a counter attack, they scored again. The half carried on with Cassiobury still not playing their best and failing to capitalise on their chances and it remained 1 – 0 to Valley at half time.
In the second half Cassiobury seemed to buck their ideas up, although the game was becoming more scrappy due to fatigue, and after coming close on several occasions won a corner; Jonny Robson whipped in a bending corner, which beat everyone, including the flapping keeper to go in at the far post. Cassiobury’s second of the half came after some excellent play from Frank Blande, ending with him crossing the ball for Robson, who played a quick ‘one two’ with James Pearce before blasting home, from a very tight angle. The game faded, but at least Cassiobury had won 2 –1.

This game was all about missed opportunities, not playing simple, easy football and not wanting it enough…..
The game started with Cassiobury's pace and skills immediately beginning to tell, but similar to recent matches, Cassiobury failed to take their chances. Cassiobury had plenty of shots and the ball went everywhere, except in the back of the net, Colne Valley on the other hand had very few attacks in the first half, but managed to make Cassiobury pay for poor defending and scored the first goal of the match. This at least spurred Cassiobury and shortly afterwards Captain Jonny Robson took a quick free kick from midway in Valley’s half and picked out Matt Godfrey with an inviting cross, for him to head across the goal into the far right hand corner. The game carried on with Cassiobury dominating and yet unable to press home the advantage.1 – 1 at half time.
The second half started in much the same fashion… Cassiobury on the attack, plenty of near misses but not taking the opportunities and they should have, because Valley played an opportunist game and managed to score another goal. Cassiobury kept on battling, but it was not enough and the game ended 2-1 to Valley.

This is one of those matches that, on paper, Cassiobury should find a walk over and easily win…….
The match started with Cassiobury putting together some excellent passing moves, consistently pushing for goal against Leavesden and having plenty of shots and close misses, but all to no avail, as Leavesden soaked up this early pressure. The game continued like this for first twenty minutes, until Leavesden had their second attack of the match and through poor play by Cassiobury, went one ahead. Although completely against the run of play Leavesden were in the lead and Cassiobury were chasing the game. For the rest of the half Cassiobury put consistent pressure on Leavesden, without any result; this was until the 44th minute, when Jack Henley, played a pass to Nick Cosgrove, for him to run the left wing, down to the by-line and swing in a lovely pass, for Captain, Jonny Robson to slot home. 1 – 1 at half time.
The second half started off in much the same way, with Cassiobury putting constant pressure on Leavesden, who were having to defend at all times. Some 10 minutes into the half Jonny Robson received a pass from his brother Ben and made an excellent solo run, to fire home Cassiobury’s second; that should have been the start of complete dominance, instead it just encouraged Leavesden to fight back and very quickly, they got back into the match with their second of the day. Cassiobury immediately fought back and within 10 minutes were ahead again after a Jake Mortimer cross, was smoothly put away by James Pearce. This was followed shortly afterwards with a goal from Matt Godfrey, from a Mortimer corner. Cassiobury dominated the rest of the half, but did not manage to score any further goals and the game ended with Cassiobury 4 – 2 winners.
Cassiobury got the result they wanted, although had it not been for poor finishing it could have been a lot more and they could have made things a bit easier for themselves.

3rd time lucky? Another Cup match with a depleted team and against a good side….
For the first 15 minutes Headstone were the dominant team, having most of the possession, but failing to capitalise and put the ball away, although coming close on several occasions; this was until they managed to beat the offside trap and score the first of the match. Cassiobury immediately fought back and were even after 5 more minutes, when after a surging counter attack Frank Blande bulleted a shot and from the rebound Jake Mortimer stabbed home. Cassiobury then went into the lead after another counter attack, this time ending with a Neal Cronin individual run, fending off the defender, he slotted the ball home into the right hand corner. Headstone pulled level at the forty-minute mark. The last goal of the half came when during an attack Jack Henley pulled the ball back to Neal Cronin, for him to be chopped down by a Headstone defender in the penalty box; Cronin stepped up and cooley slotted home the awarded penalty home. 2 – 3 at half time.
In the second half the game continued in much the same way with Headstone again being the better of the two teams but still failing to capitalise on their chances, until they drew level from a counter attack, midway through the half. It looked like the game was going to go into extra time, with several close misses from both teams, but this changed 5 minutes from the end when Headstone pulled ahead; this was too late for Cassiobury and although they gallantly tried, the score remained, and Headstone won the match 4 – 3.

For the first 10 minutes of the match Cassiobury put together
some excellent attacking moves and came close to scoring on several occasions.
At this point and during another attack Frank Blande darted towards the Inter
penalty box and put across a pass, which was deflected away by an Inter players
arm. Jack Henley coolly stepped up and scored the awarded penalty. This was
repeated ten minutes later when Captain Jonny Robson was crudely hacked down in
the inter box; this time Jake Mortimer stepped up and put the penalty away. The
last goal of the half was a superb individual effort from Robson, putting
Cassiobury 3 – 0 up at half time.
The second half belonged to Jack Henley. Henley’s second of the match came
after a skilful run from Jonny Robson was stopped by an Inter trip, but the ball
ran free to Henley who majestically swept the ball home. The hat trick goal came
after a through ball from Dan Zaraiah was tamed by Henley, who then proceeded on
a mazy run past the inter defence, before smacking the ball home with his left
foot. Cassiobury’s 6th goal came from Jonny Robson again, this time direct from
the corner, but this was the only interruption to the ‘Henley show’.
Henley’s fourth came after some nice build up play, which resulted in a hard
shot from Jake Mortimer, which the Inter ‘keeper could only parry away to the
irrepressible Henley for him to slot home. The fifth goal for Henley came from a
header from Matt Godfrey, which landed at the feet of Henley in the six-yard
box, who coolly tapped the ball in. His double hat trick goal was much the same,
with Henley again latching onto a Godfrey header, before showing no mercy to the
Inter keeper by smashing the ball in at his near post. His seventh and last goal
of the match came after another nice build up, with the ball being passed to
Henley on the edge of the box, he side footed the ball towards the top corner
with the control of a possessive husband.

Cassiobury were fielding a makeshift team for one of the
hardest matches of the season….it was going to be tough!
After kick off, it was Valley who settled the quicker of the two teams and
were immediately on the attack, however Cassiobury soon got into their stride
and the first twenty minutes were evenly fought. This view was cemented when
both teams had several near chances. After 25 minutes it was Valley who pulled

In second half, it was much of the same and unfortunately Valley struck again
within the first ten minutes of the half. For the next twenty minutes the game
ebbed and flowed with both teams coming close, with Valley perhaps edging it on
the number of shots on target. It was at this point that Valley pulled further
ahead with their third and forth goals. A late penalty for Cassiobury (which was

Old Danes have been one of Cassiobury’s ‘bogey teams’
recently and they needed to overcome this situation in an emphatic manner.
Cassiobury were on the attack immediately, but were not playing their best
football. This did not stop several near misses within the first few minutes,
leading to the first goal from Neal Cronin, who burst through the Old Danes
centre halves and blasted the ball into the back of the net, after some neat
interplay between Jack Henley and Ben Robson. At this point Cassiobury looked to
be quite comfortable, however, this changed after the referee played advantage
for a Cassiobury foul; unfortunately Cassiobury did not play to the whistle and
allowed Old Danes to ‘walk a goal in’. Cassiobury did not let this deter them
and were soon ahead again after Jake Mortimer and Captain Jonny Robson had
bamboozled the Old Danes midfield, for Mortimer to send a header to Darren
Coombs, for him fire home. Soon afterwards Cronin again found the net after
chasing down an Old Danes back pass, to rob their ‘keeper and coolley slot home.
3 - 1 at half time.
In the second half, Cassiobury came out with renewed vigour and were on the
attack from the off, coming close on several occasions, including missing at
least three open goals and hitting the woodwork. The games should have been
finished in this first 20 minutes of the half, but Cassiobury were at times, too
complacent and it took another Old Danes goal to spur them on. Following which
Old Danes got the bit between their teeth and looked the team most likely to
score.
After two or three swift counter attacks which failed due to some strong
defending, Cassiobury added to their total with another goal from Coombs, after
build up play from defence and a nice pass from Jack Cairns. In the last five
minutes, Coombs got his hat trick, after a fine cross from James Pearce, allowed
him to beat the flailing Old Danes ‘keeper with a pinpoint shot.

Cassiobury were hungry to start playing again, although it was expected that both sides would be a bit rusty from the lack of match practice.e.
From the kick off Cassiobury put together some excellent attacking moves, and came close on several occasions, but the combination of a small pitch and Leavesden’s dogged defence, meant that although they came close, they did not manage to net the ball and this is the way things continued throughout the first half. It was no surprise that the chances were restricted and neither keeper was really tested.
0 – 0 at half time.
The second half was much the same story, however Cassiobury stepped up a gear and this time and the chances were converted. It was in the 55th minute that Cassiobury won a corner, and after a delightful delivery from captain Jonny Robson, Jack Henley bundled the ball home. It was Jack’s 12th goal of an increasingly prolific season and his third in his last two appearances. This was followed shortly after by a headed goal from Neal Cronin, yet again after a Robson delivery. The third goal came in the 65th minute when left back Nick Pollard started a move, which resulted in midfield interplay and neat skill from Ben Robson to score his first goal of the season. It was five minutes later that substitute Jack Cairns set up Cronin for his second of the match. The last goal of the match came after a corner was cleared and the ball collected by Dan Zariah, for him to pass to Jake Mortimer, who delivered a neat chip for Marty Baxter to slot home.

We knew from the start that this match was going to be tough; not only because of Valley’s form, but also the weather conditions and the very small pitch, we were not disappointed…
he match started with Cassiobury having two decisive attacks and on the second they were awarded a corner. Captain, Jonny Robson took the kick, and Neal Cronin lunged to knock home Cassiobury’s first of the afternoon, after 5 minutes. The game took off after this and Cassiobury continued to pile pressure onto the hard defending Valley; 5 minutes later Jack Henley added to the score, with a superb drilled volley into the bottom right hand corner of the Valley goal. Dan Zaraiah also got his name on the score sheet after another well delivered free kick from Robson. Valley clawed a goal back at this point, through a penalty, but Cassiobury did not let this deter them and went further ahead with another Henley goal, this time from a cross, supplied by Ben Robson. The game was fairly even for the rest of the half. Half time, Cassiobury 4 - 1 up.
This score set up a simmering second half; and so it proved, as tackles clattered in and Valley tried their hardest to get back into the match, but to no avail. After a short period, Cassiobury made some changes on the pitch through substitutions and again looked threatening, with Henley this time hitting the cross bar and Cronin missing by a whisker. Three very good saves from the Valley Keeper kept the score the same. Things were not going well for Valley, as Cassiobury easily dealt with everything they offered although Valley also hit the bar and forced an excellent save from keeper Ian Dougan. In the final minutes, following an attack from Valley, Cassiobury scored their best goal. The ball was fed from the right back, Michael Tomkinson, through to right wing James Pearce, across to Ben Robson and onto Darren Coombs, who made a wonderful pass for Cronin to slot home his second of the day.
A gritty performance and a deserved win by Cassiobury.

Sunny and cold, no rain, but a really bumpy pitch which was very sticky on top.
Apoel started brightly with an attack which was cut out on the edge of the Cassiobury box. This set the pattern for the game overall as Cassiobury camped out in the Apoel half for the rest of the game. However, three quick counter attacks saw Cassiobury caught out at the back. Cassiobury continued to battle without finding the final tellingball finding the net. Ben Robson had a shot cleared off the line and finally, after several blocked shots, the ball ran to an unmarked James Pearce to slot home at the far post.
Half time and Apoel, having had only 4 shots are 3 - 1 ahead
The second half proved to be no different with Apoel inviting Cassiobury on, only to counter attack at pace and punish any mistake or missed tackle. Michael Tomkinson grabbed a consolation from a well hit Jake Mortimer corner but in the end it was Apoel who mastered the conditions better.

Cassiobury had to make up for an atrocious performance in the last match and they did so with style…………
Cassiobury were lively from the off and, producing a much-improved performance from their defeat a fortnight ago, took the lead on 10 minutes through the impressive Frank Blande thumping finish, after a lovely build up from Warren Davis and Jake Mortimer. This set the tempo for the match with some slick passing and movement; looking more and more comfortable on the ball and with confidence growing as the half went on. Cassiobury kept up the pace for the rest of the half, however at half time the score was still only 1-0 to Cassiobury, although the goalkeeper could and should have been tested on more occasions.
At half time Cassiobury looked at where they could further improve and took it on board as they started the second half fiercely using good wing play and quick, passing football. Although Hemel Town kept coming back at Cassiobury, the defence commandingly dealt with what was thrown at them, turning each Hemel attack into a useful counter, with good midfield support, fine holding up from Ben Robson and excellent link play from Jonny Robson. In the 65th minute, after another fine attack, Cassiobury won another corner. Jonny Robson went to take the corner and after some quick thinking produced a short pass to Frank Blande who this time drilled into the top right hand corner of the Hemel goal from 25 yards. Cassiobury’s midfield kept going throughout, as Hemel pushed more men forward in an effort to get something out the game. Cassiobury did not sit back and came close in the last few minutes and produced a good last 5 minutes, this meant that the final score was 2-0 to Cassiobury.

A bright day, shame the same could not be said for Cassiobury’s football!
The game started with Ginder immediately on the attack and Cassiobury having to defend hard from the off. Ginder’s open play and ‘fight’ allowed them to negate Cassiobury's pace and skills on the ball and meant that Cassiobury were always 'chasing' the game, with the few attacks that did occur coming on the counter attack. It was 20 minutes into the half when Ginder got the first goal after a counter attack. Cassiobury should have levelled several times, but instead Ginder got another two goals.3 – 0 to Ginder at half time.

A great day for football, with a simple formula for Cassiobury…. Play the way they have over the last two games.
The match started with Cassiobury putting together some excellent passing moves, consistently pushing for goal against Reed, but to no avail, as Reed soaked up this early pressure. The game continued like this for the next 15 minutes; Cassiobury having all of the ball but Reed managing to defend; although having no attacks themselves. At this point Cassiobury won a corner, which after Karl Wright headed towards goal, Jack Henley managed to stab home. The play continued in much the same vein; Cassiobury attacking and Reed, having to staunchly defend, until Jack Henley, for the second time, scored another excellent goal, after patient build up from the back. The half looked to be settled and finished
2 – 0 to Cassiobury at Half time.
The second half started off in much the same way, with Cassiobury putting lots of pressure on Reed, who were having to defend at all times. Although there were lots of chances, Cassiobury kept on snatching at shots and rushing their play and it wasn’t until the 65th minute, when Jack Henley was brought down in the box that they managed to get another, after Henley coolly put away the penalty for his hat-trick. Several near misses ensued, particularly from new Captain Jonny Robson and Frank Blande, but there were no more goals from Cassiobury; Reed managed to snatch a late consolation goal in the last minute.
Cassiobury won this match with 70% effort… they should have put in 100%!
After last weeks win in fine style, it was up to Cassiobury to continue to play in this fashion…..
The match started at a slow pace, with Cassiobury completely dominating but not managing to capitalise on this dominance by scoring goals. There were plenty of nears misses, but it wasn’t until the 15th minute when Warren Davis made a telling run down the right flank, crossed the ball for Matt Godfrey, who passed to Frank Blande to bang home. This was followed shortly afterwards by another, this time from Jack Henley after receiving an excellent pass from Ben Robson. The final goal of the half was made from a clearance from keeper Ian Dougan, through to Henley who released the ball to Jake Mortimer to slot into the top right hand corner of the Loop goal. 3 - 0 at half time.
The second half started in much the same fashion, with Cassiobury dominating, but not putting away the chances. This was until 10 minutes into the half when the ball was put into the box for Matt Godfrey to pass to Jonny Robson to slot home. The last goal came after excellent build up play down the left, for Blande to cross for Jonny Robson to get his second. Cassiobury kept up the pressure, but still with little result and at the final whistle the score remained at 5 – 0 to Cassiobury.

Cassiobury recorded an excellent result in a hard fought match against tough opposition in this county Cup match.
The weather conditions were good and the match was played in bright sunshine. The match started at fast pace with both sides playing combative football, with Cassiobury having the most possession; within five minutes they cemented this domination with an excellent goal from Jack Henley after build up play from Warren Davis and Jake Mortimer following Keeper Ian Dougan’s throw. With the amount of possession they had, Cassiobury should have gone on to score another couple of goals, but instead Finchley managed to pull level. Although on top Cassiobury still battled hard and went further ahead after being awarded a corner. Jonny Robson scoring directly from the corner kick.
1 –2 at half time.
In the second half Cassiobury began the better of the two teams and were now playing excellent, free flowing simple football, managing to force the Finchley keeper into several good saves. A timely interception by Captain Matt Godfrey and a lay off to Jonny Robson, a perfect through ball to Jake Mortimer for him to take a shot, which was parried by the Finchley Keeper, only for Drew Snailham to follow up and slot home Cassiobury’s third. Finchley never gave up, but were constantly stopped by the defence of Warren Davis, Martyn Baxter, Ollie Moore and the brother’s Tomkinson (Michael and Rob). The last goal came after another penetrating attack from Cassiobury, this time from the left wing, via Nick Cosgrove and Frank Blande, who passed to the feet of Jack Henley for him to slot home his second.

Typically for this match, Cassiobury went to sleep and Ginder immediately went ahead after another break down in play from Cassiobury. For the rest of the match, possession ebbed and flowed with both teams coming close, but no more goals.
1 – 2 at full time.
Silly mistakes throughout the match and not taking their chances let Cassiobury down.

Colne Valley FC
League
Away
1-2 (Lost)
Coombs
Having been well beaten here at the end of last season, Cassiobury were determined to avenge that defeat. Colne Valley kicked off and Jack Henley chased his way through the Colne Valley team putting pressure on the defence. A final tackle from Henley saw the ball come to Darren Coombs who forced his way into the penalty area only to be brought down when one on one with the keeper. Coombs got up to score a coolly taken spot kick.
Cassiobury continued to pressurise for the whole of the first half creating a number of chances. Colne Valley had few attacks and only threatened from one or two set pieces.
Still 0 - 1 at half time.
Cassiobury never really got into their stride in the second half although near misses from Darren Coombs, Jack Henley and Nick Pollard threatened to put the game beyond Valleys reach.
However, Colne Valley stuck at it and with some good one touch football in midfield drew level after 20 minutes. From that point on Valley dominated and only some stout defending from Cassiobury kept the scores level. With 10 minutes to go Valley scored their second and despite a couple of good chances for Cassiobury, Valley held on for a deserved win.

Headstone
Athletic
League
Home
4-3 (Won)
Blande (2), Bignell (1), Cairns (1)
A win for Cassiobury in their first league match of
the season. The match started at a quick pace with Cassiobury
immediately dominating and coming close twice within the first five
minutes. Headstone were struggling to match Cassiobury in any area
of the game and after 10 minutes Cassiobury got their first goal
after an excellent build up from the defence for Frank Blande to
slot home. Cassiobury won a penalty shortly afterwards, but this was
missed, however within a couple of minutes they got their second
goal, this time with Blande supplying an excellent cross for Adam
Bignell to drill home from 20 yards. Unfortunately at this point the
game was held up, as Pat Hill, one of the Cassiobury centre halves,
was injured in a tackle. On the restart, Cassiobury were playing
good football and followed up with another goal from Jack Cairns.
For the rest of the half, Headstone managed to counter attack a few
times, but gave no real threat.
3 – 0 at half time.
The second half
started in much the same fashion, with Cassiobury completely
dominating, but not putting away their chances. This allowed
Headstone some ‘breathing space’ and allowed them to get back into
the game, with two quick goals, through Cassiobury being sloppy and
perhaps over confident. Cassiobury soon got another goal, again from Blande after a superb individual run. Although Headstone got another
goal back, there were no real problems and Cassiobury dealt with any
further threats.
4 – 3 at full time.
Cassiobury won this game easily
and should have scored more, letting the final result flatter the
opposition.
Cassiobury Rangers took the kick of and after just 5
SECONDS had gone one ahead after Jake Mortimer headed home a Matt
Godfrey pass. This was repeated two minutes later when Darren Coombs
shot home and added to again within the next five minutes when
Mortimer got his second with a tap home. Cassiobury were obviously
‘up for it’ and Frank Blande soon put them four ahead after another
well-worked move, this time starting from Warren Davis in defence.
This was followed up shortly afterwards by another excellent goal
from Blande, who drove the ball straight into the bottom right hand
corner from a volley. Cassiobury were now running rampant and looked
like scoring from every attack; their sixth came from Jake Mortimer
again, to give him his hat trick, when he shot past the diving
United ‘keeper. Cassiobury added another before half time, when
Coombs blasted the ball home.
7 – 0 at half time.
In the second half
Cassiobury started in the same way they had finished the first,
dominating the game and coming close several times. Jonny Robson
added the next goal after a superb move involving all midfield and
added a further goal to his tally soon afterwards. United got a
couple of chances and did slot home two goals at this point, goals
which were down to Rangers ‘sloppy’ play. Jack Henley then got into
the game after a few close calls and added a further two goals in
succession. This was added to soon afterwards by Jonny Robson
getting his hat trick, with an excellent far post effort, after a
Clive Harris/Frank Blande move. Robson then supplied a through ball,
which was put away by Jack Henley for his hat trick. United got
their third at this point, yet again down to Rangers ‘taking their
foot off the gas’. The last goal from Rangers, came from yet another
patient build up, which was volleyed home after some neat skill, by
Robson.
14 – 3 at full time.
An excellent performance from
Cassiobury, an exiting and well-contested match to watch, through
good sportsmanship by both sides and good refereeing!
