As
this match may have been the last of the season (due to next
weeks match being in doubt), it was vital that Cassiobury won,
to gain fourth place in the league. This was not an unfair
expectation as in the last three meetings; Cassiobury had won
every game.
Unfortunately, Cassiobury were, for some reason, just not up for the
match at all and gave a very poor display throughout. By halftime
Colne Valley were 5 – 0 ahead and by full time they had made it 7 –
0. There were few excuses and the better team won on the day

Headstone played this match in
their normal manner, i.e. playing physical football and moaning
at every decision that did not go their way. That said in the
first twenty minutes they had a lot to moan at, as Cassiobury
were on top and came close on several occasions, just failing to
put the ball away. Headstone did not give up and soon pulled
ahead with a goal, which came from a Cassiobury defensive error.
This was again added to by headstone some five minutes later,
yet again through Cassiobury errors. But Cassiobury did not give
up and soon pulled a goal back, with a brother Robson double
act, after Jonny Robson took a corner and Ben Robson headed
home. Headstone added to their total just before half time with
another breakaway goal. 3 – 1 to Headstone at half time.
The second half started with Cassiobury on top and
within five minutes getting another goal back from Darren Coombs.
Headstone kept fighting but were now the chasing team and Cassiobury
drew level after an excellent goal from Drew Snailham. At this point
Cassiobury were dominating and came close on several more occasions,
before Headstone went ahead again, this served to knock the stuffing
out of Cassiobury and although they kept on trying, they never
really looked like winning from this point. Headstone got their
final goal some ten minutes before full time.
In a match where there were many opportunities not
taken, Cassiobury should have done better, but due to another
makeshift team and Headstone taking their chances, they contrived to
lose, 5 – 3.

After Cassiobury’s recent fine run, this was going to
be perhaps the hardest match of the season; a scratch team, with
players playing injured and no subs…. Still at least it was a nice
day!
The game started with Cassiobury on the attack and
for the first five minutes keeping Gadeside in their own half, but
this soon changed and after a short while Gadeside were making
experience and players playing well, count. It was 20 minutes into
the half when Gadeside got the first goal after a lucky deflection
from a Cassiobury player. This was followed by two further goals
from Gadeside to make it 3 – 0 to Gadeside at half time.
The second half continued in the same manner with
Cassiobury managing to keep Gadeside out for the first 15 minutes,
but then through a series of errors letting Gadeside score another
goal. Cassiobury did not give up and got a goal back by Drew
Snailham after hassling the Gadeside back line; it was too little,
too late and the game ended at 4 – 1 to Gadeside at full time.
Cassiobury did not play particularly well, but with
the team fielded it was not a bad effort against the division
leaders.

The day was fine and dry, but
the wind was strong and would have a definite influence on the
match.
Cassiobury were against the wind in the first half.
The game started slowly with both sides having attacks, which came
to nothing; Headstone using the wind to their advantage and
Cassiobury having to defend well. After 5 minutes, Headstone won a
corner and after a good delivery Cassiobury somehow failed to clear
the ball and it was poked home at the back post. Cassiobury were
playing ok against the wind, but not managing to really threaten
Headstone and this is how it remained until half time, at 0 – 1.
In the second half, with the wind in their favour
Cassiobury new what they had to do; let the ball do the work, use
the wind, be patient and shoot when the opportunity arose.
Cassiobury did this, playing some controlled football, passing the
ball around and working hard. But still did not manage to put the
ball away and it seemed that the second half was going to mirror the
first. This was until they won a free kick some 40 yards out; this
was excellently taken by Jonny Robson, who hit the cross bar for Joe
Mortimer to nod home. This was followed shortly afterwards by
Cassiobury's second gaol, after a lovely run by Jack Henley and a
great pass for Shane Brogan to fire home from 20 yards. It looked
like Cassiobury had won it, but unfortunately Headstone drew level
after a shot was parried by the Cassiobury keeper, only to have it
tapped home by another Headstone player.
Probably a fair result on the day, although had it
not been for the wind Cassiobury would have won handsomely.

This
was going to be a tough one…. Cassiobury had no recognised ‘keeper
and regular players missing.
The
match started with Cassiobury immediately on the attack playing some
good football and putting pressure on Inter. The trouble was that
none of pressure was paying off and although they came close, with
Drew Snailham hitting the woodwork, Cassiobury did not capitalise on
the opportunities enough. Inter were playing o.k, but not managing
the threaten the Cassiobury goal, this was until half way through
the half, when after their first real attack, they won a corner;
this was duly taken and a dubious penalty was awarded for hand ball
by a Cassiobury player, the penalty was converted and they went one
up and this was how things stayed until half time. Half time, 0 – 1
to Inter.
Cassiobury came on for the second half and continued from where they
left off; putting further pressure on Inter, but still failing to
capitalise. Inter again against the run of play has free kick
converted, going two up. This seemed to 'kick-start’ Cassiobury who
immediately came back with an excellent goal, after some fine wing
play and a pin point cross by debutant Shane Brogan, Jack Henley
slotted home. Shortly afterwards, Henley added to his goal after yet
more good play from the left wing, this time by defender, Nick
Pollard. With the scores equal, Cassiobury began to really take
control of the match, having the vast majority of the play and
coming close on several more occasions, before going ahead with a
great shot from outside the 18-yard box by Drew Snailham. This was
followed shortly afterwards by another goal after stand in keeper
Jake Mortimer, parried an Inter shot to Martyn Baxter who fed
through a lovely ball to Snailham to slot home his second of the
day.
A
tough game for Cassiobury, who felt throughout that the decisions
were going against them. In the end they let their football do the
talking and could have ended up with a lot more goals.

After last weeks match, with
Cassiobury on top and yet managing to lose, they had it all to
prove.
The match started with Ginder immediately on the
attack and after their second attack of the match, going one up
after silly mistakes in defence by Cassiobury. Cassiobury did not
let this deter them and after ‘waking up’, began to start playing
some decent football, putting together some good passes to put
pressure on Ginder. This pressure got a result with an excellent
goal from Drew Snailham, after good link up play from Nick Pollard
and a beautiful through ball from Martyn Baxter. Snailham added to
this, with his second goal of the match after another excellent
through ball, this time from Joe Mortimer. The game continued with
Cassiobury having most of the possession and Ginder having to fight
hard at the back. Matt Godfrey (after having a goal disallowed),
started the next attack, which resulted in Drew Snailham’s hat
trick; this after both the Ginder keeper and right back had tackled
him and he has landed on his rear for him to knock it in from that
position! Half time, 3 – 1 to Cassiobury.
Cassiobury came on for the second half with renewed
enthusiasm, as they knew they were dominating the match. They
continued from where they left off; putting further pressure on
Ginder and not letting them out of their half. It was 10 minutes
into the second half when Adam Bignell passed the ball to Joe
Mortimer for him to let fly, putting the ball into the bottom right
corner. This was soon followed by lovely ball from Ben Robson to
Jack Henley for him to slot home, giving the goalkeeper no chance.
The next goal was again made by Matt Godfrey for Joe Mortimer to get
his second of the match. Ginder got a consolation goal shortly
afterwards from a poorly defended free kick. Five Minutes later Jack
Henley sealed the game with his second, after an excellent pass from
winger Karl Wright.
In summary good football played by Cassiobury, a fine
game and a deserved result.

An upbeat performance from
Cassiobury saw a committed Old Danes gain a win, by taking their
chances.
Straight from kick off it was apparent that the match
was going to be fought hard by both sides. Old Danes began well and
very quickly forced Cassiobury into some excellent defensive play.
After this initial push from Old Danes, Cassiobury got into the
match and apart from break away counter attacks, managed to dominate
the next 30 minutes or so, however the problem was that Cassiobury
failed to take any of the chances they created, with Ed Hutchinson,
Joe Mortimer and Jonny and Ben Robson all having chances and all
failing to put them away (perhaps the story of their season). At
this point Old Danes had another breakaway and from this pulled one
ahead, this was followed by dominant play from Cassiobury, to no
avail and the half finished with Old Danes one up, when Cassiobury
should have been three one up!
In the second half Cassiobury started much the
brighter and came close within the first couple of minutes, however
Old Danes had another break away and yet again took their chance.
This was followed shortly by another break away and another goal
from Old Danes. Cassiobury were still playing well, but the faint
chance they had left was soon taken away when Danes scored their
fourth and final goal.
This was one of those days where the dominating team
should have won easily and instead lost badly, a flattering result
to Old Danes, but if you don’t take your chances and score goals,
you will not win matches.

This
was going to be trying match for both team; bitterly cold and a
hard wind.
The match started with Cassiobury immediately
attacking, playing a sensible passing game and within two minutes
they went ahead after a cross from Adam Bignell on the right wing to
Ed Hutchinson, who then put a lovely through ball to Jack Henley who
slotted home in the right corner.
The match continued with Cassiobury building up the
pressure, dominating Reed and not allowing them to play; there were
going to be more opportunities. And so it proved, with Cassiobury
hitting the cross bar on three occasions in the first half, before
they went two up; after Ed Hutchinson hit the bar and Jack Henley
followed up, by slamming the ball away. 0 - 2, at half time.
In the second half, Cassiobury started where they had
finished off in the first half, narrowly missing within the first
minute. This was followed up shortly afterwards by another
Hutchinson assist for Jack Henley to get his hat trick. From then
onwards Cassiobury were in the driving seat and the only thing
stopping them from scoring a hatful being the wind. The roles
reversed for the next goal with Hutchinson scoring and Henley
assisting. The next goal was a penalty by Hutchinson, after he was
scythed down in the box. Adam Bignell slotted the last goal home,
after some excellent open play from the whole team.
On the whole an excellent match to watch and a well
played match by Cassiobury. Shame about the weather!

A heavy pitch, and a strong
wind blowing directly goal to goal, this was no day for slick
passing.
Playing into the wind in the first half, Cassiobury
played well and were equal to the Old Danes, if not slightly on top
for the first 25 minutes, until a free kick was conceded. From the
dead ball, Cassiobury had three chances to clear and failed to do so
and Old Danes went one up. This was followed by their second of the
match after yet again Cassiobury failed to clear an easy ball and
the old Danes left winger slotted home. It was five minutes from the
end of the half that Ben Robson managed to claw a goal back for
Cassiobury, after chasing down a back pass. 1 – 2 at half time.
The second half started brightly for Cassiobury with
the wind at their backs and Old Danes having problems clearing the
ball, leading to two chances straight away. However, Old Danes
managed to weather the early pressure and managed to score another
two goals, both from Cassiobury mistakes.
The last fifteen minutes was all Cassiobury, and
after a torrent of attacks they managed to pull another goal back,
direct from an Adam Bignell corner. There were no more goals, but
plenty of Cassiobury near misses and the score remained 4 - 2.
With both teams playing only their second game since
Nov 30th, a certain amount of rustiness was to be
expected. Apart from the scorers no-one would describe any of the
goals as classic but at least both teams tried their best to play
good football.

Cassiobury are having their
worse ever run of matches, had missed the last two matches due
to the weather and had a few players returning to the side, so
things were not going to be easy.
It was Valley who settled the quicker of the two
teams and were immediately on the attack, coming close on a couple
of occasions and then within 5 minutes going ahead after a fluke
goal; the ball bouncing off the outside of the post and in off the
keepers legs. After this early disappointment, Cassiobury soon got
into their stride, with some positive play from all positions and
several close chances, until towards the end of the half, Darren
Coombs slammed home a thirty-yard scorcher. 1 – 1 at half time.
In the second half, it was Cassiobury who started the
strongest and soon went ahead with a goal from Captain Jonny Robson,
who slotted past the Valley keeper after cutting in from the right
wing. This was added to within five minutes after Coombs got his
second, heading home from a corner. Valley put up their last bit a
fight by getting a goal back, after some sloppy defensive work by
Cassiobury, but this did not deter them and they went further ahead
after a Jonny Robson, free kick, which was drilled home from 25
yards. The fifth and last goal was taken by Jack Henley. For the
last 15 minutes the game was all Cassiobury without them adding to

Thick mud was the order of the

resembled the Somme by full time.
Cassiobury, playing with the wind dominated the first
half, creating numerous chances. They were however, guilty
throughout of trying to take too many touches and with the ball
holding up on the surface, ball skills were next to impossible.
After 25 minutes Jack Henley finally broke the deadlock with a shot
from 25 yards which beat the Rising Eagles keeper. 1 - 0 at half
time.
The second half started brighter for Rising Eagles
who pushed forward more with the wind in their favour although
Cassiobury continued to create more chances. Unfortunately a
defensive error from Cassiobury handed Rising Eagles the equaliser
on the half hour mark. Cassiobury were now pushing forward for the
win and with three minutes to go Eagles beat the Cassiobury defense

Snow on the ground and heavy
wintry rain throughout the first half. Makes you wonder why
anyone would want to get out of bed. Both teams, however, did
their best to cope with the conditions and provided some
entertaining football.
Cassiobury started brightly with several attacks
although they failed to force the keeper into a decent save. Reed
were also playing good football going forward but again the
Cassiobury keeper had little to do.
After 20 minutes the deadlock was broken, following a
move down the left Jack Henley received the ball on the edge of the
penalty area and fired a shot into the bottom right hand corner of
the goal. Reed continued to press and on the half hour, forced a mix
up in the Cassiobury defence which resulted in the equaliser. 1 - 1
at half time.
The second half started brightly - both on the
weather and the football fronts. After 15 minutes, James Cooper
picked up the ball on the edge of the Reed box, slotted it through
to Joe Mortimer who rounded one player to shoot inside the far post.
Joe Mortimer’s second came with 15 minutes remaining

The second half continued in the same vein until
Ginder scored with a swift counter attack which saw them with a one

miss chances until 3 minutes from full time when sub Joe Mortimer
volleyed home from an Ed Hutchinson pass. 1 - 1 and extra time.
Extra time was again a story of Cassiobury chances
not taken. Half way through the first period, a free kick from 30
yards , taken by Jon Robson was tipped round the post by the Ginder
keeper. Five minutes later a similar free kick saw Jon find the
target again, this time successfully, despite the keeper getting a

An extremely heavy pitch, and
a very strong wind blowing directly goal to goal, this was no
day for slick passing or long balls.
Playing into the wind in the first half, Cassiobury
battled well for the first 15 minutes although the wind tended to
make clearances virtually impossible at times. Defensive practise
was the order of the day and the Cassiobury back four stood up well
to the challenge.
After 20 minutes, on only their second or third foray
into the Comets half, Cassiobury were awarded a free kick on the
left of the centre circle. Jake Mortimer delivered the perfect ball
to the far post for Captain Matt Godfrey to out jump the defence and
power in a header.
Comets were quick to respond scoring twice from
corners in a ten minute spell. On both occasions the high ball
hanging in the wind proved difficult to deal with. 2 - 1 Comets at
half time.
The second half started brightly for Cassiobury with
the wind at their backs and Comets with the problems of clearing the
ball. However, Comets managed to weather the early pressure and
managed to score two good goals, although the second was partly to

A miserable wet morning did

After around 20 minutes Gadeside scored their first
goal following a defensive error from Cassiobury, followed 5 minutes
later with a second from a good run down the left wing which
Cassiobury failed to deal with. The game continued to ebb and flow
until 2 minutes before the break when some great hustling from Karl
Wright in the Cassiobury midfield caused panic in the Gadeside
defence. Wright spread the ball wide to Jack Cairns to take it round
the keeper, providing Ed Hutchinson with an easy tap in.

Cassiobury started the second half much the stronger
but after 10 minutes, following a good Cassiobury attack, Gadeside
counter attacked and scored their third. A slightly stunned

Not
helped by losing a striker before the game this was to be a test
for the new found resolve of Cassiobury Rangers. So it proved
throughout the first half with some crisp passing and movement,
which always had the Ginder defence on the back foot.
Ginder going forward also created some good chances
but Cassiobury proved their slight dominance with a good Jack Henley
finish following a passing sequence out of defence involving 4 or 5
players. The remainder of the half saw several chances created but
some good goalkeeping for both sides kept the score the same.
A slow start to the second half from Cassiobury saw
Ginder equalise when the midfield failed to close down their
opponents. Jack Henley scored his second goal, which was very
similar to the first. Unfortunately this caused the whole team to
take their feet off the gas and Ginder, refusing to give up, scored
two more goals. Both keepers made significant saves towards the end
to keep the scoreline at 3 - 2 to Ginder.
Inconsistency seems to be the Cassiobury downfall at

This was always going to be a tough match and if Cassiobury
played as they had in their last two matches, it would be a lot
tougher!
It was Gadeside who settled the quicker of the two teams and were
immediately on the attack, however Cassiobury soon got into their
stride, with some positive play from all positions and the first
twenty minutes were evenly fought, with Gadeside perhaps having a
couple more chances. It was Gadeside who pulled ahead, after they
had won a corner and after some sloppy marking, bundled the ball
home. This did not get to Cassiobury, who began to play fast,
flowing, simple football; coming close on a couple occasion and,
after a free kick having a ball kicked off the goal line. 1 –0 to
Gadeside at half time.
In the second half, it was Cassiobury who started the strongest and
looked to be getting on top, until a hotly disputed goal by Gadeside;
this was after the Referee awarded a corner, when the ball had
clearly gone out for a throw in. Yet again, Cassiobury came back and
fought hard and after one attack, started from defence, Jack Cairns,
was put through by Ed Hutchinson, and after hassling the Gadeside
keeper into a mistake, slotted home a great goal. For the next
twenty minutes the game ebbed and flowed with both teams coming
close, with Cassiobury perhaps edging it on the number of shots on
target. It was at this point that Gadeside pulled ahead with their
third and decisive goal. The game continued at the fast pace with
more opportunities but no more goals.

Another match with a makeshift team.
Unfortunately, if you don’t play well and you have a makeshift

The game started with old Danes immediately on

scorer went past at least three Cassiobury players, this was
soon followed by more mistakes and two more goals. Cassiobury
were still in the match though and had some decent attacks and

The second half started in a much brighter
fashion for Cassiobury, as they were at last beginning to play

communication that cost Cassiobury and by the end of the half,
Cassiobury had let in another two goals. Ben Robson scored the
consolation goal after an excellent build up move, from Neal

Cassiobury only had twelve players for this match
and had several players playing out of position.
Right from the off, Cassiobury began to play
attacking football; they began to use the wings and the space that
that created. This was highlighted by the first goal, after five
minutes, which came from Jake Mortimer, on the right wing, who
crossed the ball to beat not only all the Cassiobury players but
also the Inter keeper. Cassiobury carried on passing the ball well
and came close on several other occasions within the next twenty
minutes, but perhaps because they were so dominant and not punishing
enough, they allowed Inter back into the match with their first real
attack, which resulted in a shot from outside the box, looping over
the keeper to make things even. Cassiobury dominated the rest of the
half, but again did not manage to capitalise on this until the 43rd
minute, when another neat move started from the back, ended with
captain Ben Robson laying off an excellent through ball for Ed
Hutchinson to slot home. 2 – 1 at half time.
The second half started in much the same manner as
the first with Cassiobury again dominating and after 10 minutes
going further ahead after Martyn Baxter stretched slide home an
excellent Nick Pollard cross. This is when Cassiobury should have
built on their dominance and scored more goals; unfortunately this
was not to be the case and yet again they allowed Inter back into
the match, to the extent that at the end, after Inter had clawed
back 2 easy goals they were the team threatening. Three all at full

A bit of a patchy game, with a fair result based

Not a bad day for the first match of
the season - no rain!
The match started with Cassiobury immediately on
the attack and for the first five minutes coming close on two
occasions. Unfortunately, this was the best it was to get for
Cassiobury in the first half, because from then onwards everything
seemed to go wrong and all the play was scrappy and without any real
direction. At the fifteen minute mark Reed pulled ahead after a long
ball from their keeper was struck home after being parried by the
Cassiobury back up keeper, Mark Flynn. This seemed to sting
Cassiobury and within two minutes they drew level after an excellent
free kick from Jonny Robson. Reed continued to play the long ball
game and pulled ahead by a further two goals; one from an open move
and the second from a free kick, which took a wicked deflection off
a Cassiobury defender. The game continued with Cassiobury having by
far the most possession, but managing to either lose the ball easily
or failing to pass the ball to feet. Towards the end of the half,
Cassiobury managed to claw a goal back through Darren Coombs after a
lovely individual run. 3 –2 at half time.
In the second half Cassiobury began the better of
the two teams and it was within a short time that Neal Cronin scored
their third goal, after good build up play. This was followed
shortly afterwards by another goal from Robson. Cassiobury were now
playing excellent, free flowing simple football, managing to pass
and move and as importantly have an end product, missing and coming
close on several occasions. The next goal came from a lovely move
from a ball played from defence, which resulted in the ball being
played through to Cronin for him to slot home his second. The next
goal was perhaps the best of the match and started in defence again,
with Darren Coombs dribbling down the right wing to cross to Cronin,
on the edge of the box to coolly slot home for his hat trick. The
last goal came from a Jonny Robson corner, which was headed home by
Captain Matt Godfrey.
7 – 3 to Cassiobury at full time.
